Kristine MacMillan, MSW, LCSW

I am originally from Maryland but have been in North Carolina for approximately 3 years now.  I feel so honored to be a part of Carolina Parenting Solutions, PLLC, surrounded by amazing and gifted clinicians, while doing the work that I am absolutely passionate about.  I have been working in the community based setting for 10 years now and truly believe in the power and success behind it.  I believe that the best way to help children and families is strength based systems approach.  Life and all of the complicated experiences that come along with it are rarely solved in a 60 minute office session.  Every family is different, and it is my goal to take the time to get to know yours exactly where life happen, within the home and to be the best support to you that I can.

I have experience working with infant to adults providing individual and family therapy.  I have been formally trained in NCAST, which is a clinical and research method of assessing the parent and child’s level of attachment in hopes to decrease developmental risk factors at an early stage.  While living in Maryland I provided mental health therapy for a nationally renowned children’s hospital in the heart of Baltimore City.  I also spent some time providing services at a therapeutic nursery in a homeless shelter. There, I specialized in working with infants and toddlers who typically suffered from severe attachment disorders as well as various behavioral issues. When working in the therapeutic nursery setting, I also acted as a transitional therapist. I provided mental health counseling services for families making the transition back into the community from the surrounding area homeless shelters.

While I have always been drawn to this profession and loved the work, I found that once I had two beautiful daughters of my own, my passion for it only grew.  I have been on the other side of the sleepless nights and consuming worry.  I feel that from my own experiences as a parent, one of the worst things you can feel is alone with little hope.  My goal as a clinician is to be there with you every step of the way, empowering you as the parent, while strengthening the family dynamic.
